Happy October!
Dates to remember:
Monday, October 3rd – Picture Day
Tuesday, October 4th – Thanksgiving Mass, 9:25 a.m.
Friday, October 7th – PD Day, no school
Friday, October 7th - Happy Birthday Justin!
The first month has flown by and the children are really getting into the classroom routines. This week the children will begin to make choices in their learning activities. This week they can choose to start with reading or writing during the language block. Next week they will begin "making word" activities and add a third choice to their independent learning time.
In Math, the children have begun math centres. Three days a week they work on independent activities, partner games, math books, “Dreambox,” or working with me. The children are enjoying these activities and having fun learning.
Braelyn and Lindsay each lost 2 teeth in September. Cayden was the first to loose a tooth in October. The tooth fairy is always busy!
Our learning goals this week:
Reading: doing a picture week before reading
tracking the words
stretching out the sounds in small words, i.e. d – o – g, m – a – n
recognizing the word wall words
Writing printing the word wall word
underlining words they don’t know how to spell
stretching out the sounds to spell unknown words
Math sorting objects based on 1 attribute
recognizing a variety of number representations, i.e. words, dot representations, numbers
Religion developing their understanding that Jesus loves them like a parent loves them.
Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you have a wonderful holiday.
Mrs. O'Callaghan
