I hope you had a wonderful weekend. Many of the children were very excited to share about seeing the spectacular moon!
This week in Religion we are finishing up decorating our prayer table and wall. The children enjoy adding leaves, rocks and acorns that they bring in from the yard. This week we will be discussing families and how they are alike and different. We will talk about our families at home, at school, and at Church. We will be learning how it is important for all family members to help out.
In Language, we are learning to use our fingers to track the words when we are reading. It is very important for beginning readers to track as they read so they can figure out if they have missed a word. We are working on printing and the sounds of the letters, t, c, and a. The children will now begin to spell out simple 3 letter words using sounds they have learned so far (m, s, f, b, t, c and a). We are working on printing sentences using a writing frame. This week we will be working on "I like sentences and "Fall is..."
In Math, we are working on counting up and back to 20. The children are learning to match numbers, words, and pictures. We have learned a simple dice game called Grade 1 Yahtzee. It is a lot fun and a good way to practice counting and adding. We are doing lots and lots of counting!
Please continue to read aloud to your child. It is so important for developing reading skills. Be sure to ask questions (s. Who is the story about? I wonder why they did that? What do you think will happen next?) as you are reading. Rhyming books, such as Dr. Seuss books are really great books to read out loud. Encourage your child to help with the rhymes. Happy reading.
Reminder: Library is on Friday.
Food drive - September 28 to October 6th
