Happy October!
Happy Birthday Joshua
Tooth fairy visit – Mackenzie and Lauren
The children are doing a great job rotating through Literacy and Math centres. They have very quickly learned the routines and are able to stay focused for 10 to 15 minutes per centre. Great job!
The days are getting colder and often change dramatically throughout the day. Please be sure to send your child with clothing for all kinds of weather!
If your child is wearing tie shoelaces, please make sure they know how to tie them. The children change their shoes four times a day so they need to be speedy with this skill. It is also a safety issue. Should the fire bell go there should not be any floppy laces. Thanks!
Finally, some children are bringing toys and cards to school. At this time I have not heard that from the office that this is not permitted. Remind your child that it is their responsibility to make sure they bring these items in from recess. Please make sure that they are not bringing precious items to school to avoid tears if they are lost.
This week’s learning goals are:
Reading: tracking the print,
recognizing word wall words,
saying blank and reading on
using beginning sounds and pictures
Writing leaving spaces between the words
using a frame to write a Hallowe’en story
printing “super sentences” with the word wall words
Math counting objects to demonstrate 1:1 correspondence
printing numbers, and number words,
recognizing numbers patterns
adding 1 more and 1 less
Religion/ The beauty of creation – Genesis 1:1-13
Science The wonder of living things
Activities to do at home
Have a wonderful week!

Activities to do at home
- Have your child read to you nightly
- Continue to read to your child frequently
- Practice recognizing, spelling, and printing word wall words
- Practice counting objects
- Conservation of number is a challenge to many of the children. Here is a game to play at home that helps with this concept and with the counting on strategy.
- You will need playing cards (1 to 10), 1 die, a cup and counters (16 –pennies will work) . First flip a card, say the number and put that many counters in the cup. Then roll the dice, say the number and put that many beside the cup. Without recounting the number in the cup your child need s to figure out how many there is all together.
Have a wonderful week!
