Dates to Remember: Food Drive, Sept 26th to Oct 3rd
Monday, October 3rd - Picture Day
Tuesday, October 4th - Thanksgiving Mass
Friday, October 7th - PD (no school for students)
It is hard to believe that September is almost over! The children are becoming experts at following the classroom routines. They fill in their agendas daily and remember the tidy up routines at the end of the day. We have already begun to do math centres and will soon be ready to begin literacy centres. Centres are a great way to independently practice concepts that we have been learning.
Some of the concepts we are working on this week are:
Reading - doing a picture walk
- using picture cues
- using beginning sounds
Writing - stretching out or sounding out words
- underlining words we don't know
- reading the room (using words on our "All about Me" posters in our writing)
Math - sorting objects
- choosing a sorting rule
- reading and writing numbers to 12
Religion - we are learning about the "Good Samaritan" and how to be a good neighbour.
Some activities that you can do with your child this week would be to play rhyming games, i.e., give your child a pattern, such as "at" and see how many words they can come up with. Have your child use their toys to create some sorting rules. See if you can guess their rule.
Have a great week.
